Efficiency and Cooling
DC Power’s HP Series high output alternators lose approximately 15 percent less output over a conventional stator when hot due to their efficiency. You can expect our 180HP to perform at it's best under the most severe conditions due to the alternator not specifically relying on the internal fans to cool the stator. Instead, the HP series alternators work by cooling by the mass of the stator, which acts as a enormous copper heat sink to dissipate heat. DC Power Engineering’s HP Series High Output Alternator use brand new proprietary OEM advanced multifunction digital regulators from Denso. These regulators are held up to the strictest standards in the OEM industry and will completely integrate with your vehicle’s PCM through either direct plug-in or using our supplied adapter harness when necessary. DC Power’s HP Series regulators retain all PCM vehicle specific functions such as but not limited to internal temperature compensation, lamp terminal monitoring, load response control, and alternator load factor.
To solve this problem of higher heat production due to higher output, the copper rectifier consists of 12 40-amp press-fit diodes. The surface area of the rectifier cooling fins is nearly twice the size of conventional rectifier of the alternators size, improving the cooling ability and efficiency of the rectifiers in a smaller footprint.
The efficiency in the stator design reduces electromagnetic noise by 10 decibels. By engineering a newly designed noise cancellation circuit by dividing the alternator’s stator coil into two separate pairs (two three phase alternators) that produce a phase difference. This allows the alternator’s AC ripple current to be decreased by 500 percent, which eliminates engine noise generated by the alternator for noise sensitive electronics such as: Inverters, Car Audio Electronics and LCD Screens.

From racing in the mud to the extreme 140°F+ ambient temperatures in Iraq, the HP Series alternators has been proven in the line of duty. Due to the hairpin design, the stator wires never touch each other and wont “short out” and leave you stranded if the stator varnish starts to deteriorate in extreme environmental conditions. The HP Series alternator’s brush holder and slip ring are environmentally protected and use world-class Koyo Bearings that are designed to spin at speeds as much as 20,000 Shaft RPM for racing applications.
